One thing that caught me by surprised when it came to looking for the right index fund for me was that there were so many of them out there. And they are pretty clear cut, too. In my case, I found a gap in my portfolio where I was way under exposed to mid cap funds. Not knowing a whole bunch about this investment area, I opted for index funds. And yes, I had to think hard about which one to invest with, but at the end of the day, I have the exposure I need. And that is what it really comes down to, rounding out my asset mix.
